If you are doing something you would do for nothing – then you are on your way to salvation. And if you could drop it in a minute and forget the outcome, you are even further along. And if while you are doing it you are transported into another existence, there is no need for you to worry about the future.

Something to think about . . .
Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us.

Recipe for a Happy New Year . . .
Take twelve fine, full-grown months; see that these are thoroughly free from old memories of bitterness, rancor and hate, cleanse them completely from every clinging spite; pick off all specks of pettiness and littleness; in short, see that these months are freed from all the past˜have them fresh and clean as when they first came from the great storehouse of Time. Cut these months into thirty or thirty-one equal parts. Do not attempt to make up the whole batch at one time (so many persons spoil the entire lot this way) but prepare one day at a time.
Into each day put equal parts of faith, patience, courage, work (some people omit this ingredient and so spoil the flavor of the rest), hope, fidelity, liberality, kindness, rest (leaving this out is like leaving the oil out of the salad dressing˜ don‚t do it), prayer, meditation, and one well-selected resolution. Put in about one teaspoonful of good spirits, a dash of fun, a pinch of folly, a sprinkling of play, and a heaping cupful of good humor.
Try it and you will like it.

Go to the people. Learn from them. Live with them. Start with what they know. Build with what they have. The best of leaders when the job is done, when the task is accomplished, the people will say we have done it ourselves.

One Word Can Change Your Life . . .
I found this out after reading a post on my nephew’s Facebook page. After reading the book he mentioned, my word found me: Faithful.
I have shared the book with several people who have also shared their one-word theme for 2013.
Read more about it in my column: Nigel says that one word can change everything and share your word for 2013.

J. K. Rowling on failure . . .
So why do I talk about the benefits of failure? Simply because failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realised, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.

We ourselves must be full of life if we are going to make life fuller for others.

Everyday . . .
May every day of your life bring you fresh hopes for tomorrow – because hope gives all of us our reason for trying.
May each new day bring a feeling of excitement, joy,and a wonderful sense of expectation. Expect the best, and you’ll get it.
May you find peace in simple things, because those are the ones that will always be there.
May you remember the good times and forget the sorrow and pain, for the good times will remind you of how special your life has been.
May you always feel secure and loved, and know you are the best.
May you experience all the good things in life – the happiness of realizing your dreams, the joy of feeling worthwhile, and the satisfaction of knowing you’ve succeeded.
May you find warmth in others, expressions of love and kindness, smiles that encourage you, and friends who are loyal and honest.
May you realize the importance of patience and accept others for what they are. With understanding and love, you’ll find the good in every heart.
May you have faith in others and the ability to be vulnerable. Open your heart and really share the miracle of love and intimacy.
